Is Piglets registered with Ofsted?
Yes, we are, under the name: Great Staughton Pre-school. We also have a link to the latest Ofsted reports on our "About Us" page. On our last inspecation we received a 'Good' rating, but we will continually to strive to improve our setting.

What is the staff to child ratio?
We have a different ratio for 3 1/2 year olds than that for 4 and 5 year olds.

3 1/2 year olds is: 1 Adult to 4 children

4 & 5 year olds is: 1 Adult - 8 children
What is a Key-Person?
The key person role is set out in the Welfare Requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Each Early Years setting must offer a key person for each child. Here are some of their responsibilities:

The key person offers unconditional regard for the child and is non-judgemental.

The key person works with the parent to plan and deliver a personalised plan for the child’s well-being, care and leaning.

The key person acts as the key contact for the parents and has links with other carers involved with the child, such as a childminder, and co-ordinates the sharing of appropriate information about the child’s development with those carers once we have received signed authorisation from the parent/carer.

The key person is responsible for developmental records and for sharing information on a regular basis with the child’s parents to keep those records up-to-date, reflecting the full picture of the child in the Pre-school and at home.
Does my child need to be Toilet-Trained to start?
Absolutely not! While it makes things easier on the staff to have all children toilet-trained, the staff are very aware and understanding when a child is not yet ready to be toilet-trained, or is taking a while to get settled into toileting routines. Staff will work closely with parents, and may suggest ideas to help parents - after all, they've seen almost EVERYTHING when it comes to toileting issues. If you have concerns about your child's progress in toilet-training, you can contact the local Health Visitor through the surgery to get further assistance.

Does Piglets have an induction process for new children?
We are a friendly bunch here at Piglets, and to help everyone feel comfortable, we run ‘taster sessions’ where parents and children are invited to allow their child to settle in before they start. Taster sessions help detract from the stress felt when starting a new setting, and gives the child(ren) and parent confidence that Piglets is perfectly suited to their needs. It allows you and your child to build trust in the Piglets staff and also gives new parents and children the opportunity to build relationships with the children and parents already there.
